My uncle, Paul Bennett, was a great singer and songwriter. He wrote many beautiful gospel songs, including "Almost Home" and "I Touched the Hem of His Garment."
He recorded these two songs in 1959 on his own label, Stone Mountain Records. In the sixties, famous singer Cowboy Copus recorded "Almost Home" on Starday Records. In the seventies, the Primitive Quartet recorded the song, as did well-known Bluegrass singer Dr. Ralph Stanley. Many others followed suit recording the beautiful gospel song as well.
Paul passed away in 1964, leaving three daughters, Linda, Polly, and Connie, all lovers of music like their dad.
Paul is a member of the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame.
